NIOSH endorses firefighter seat belt campaign NIOSH Acting Director Christine Branche has added her agency's endorsement to the National Fire Service Seat Belt Pledge 100% Campaign.

The campaign's goal is for all firefighters and fire departments across the country to pledge to buckle up 100 percent of the time. Between 1998 and 2007, 67 percent of the 114 fire personnel killed in vehicle crashes were known to not be wearing a seat belt or restraint system, according to the Quincy, MA-based National Fire Protection Association.

Groups involved in the campaign include the U.S. Fire Administration, International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Volunteer Fire Council, NFPA and National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
